To see who has viewed a Google doc go to tools menu-> Activity Dashboard on your Google doc ( pre-requisite: you must have a google business or school account, this feature is not available on a free personal account )
How to see who has viewed a Google doc: Step by Step Guide
Everyone would like to have this feature for free However this feature is only available with Google workplace paid accounts for a Business, organization, or school.
Note: if you have a personal free account this feature will not visible.
Use the G-Suite Activity Monitor Feature
Enclosed are the steps to view the Google docs activity
Step 1: Open Google docs
Step 2: Go to the Tools menu on the Main menu
Step 3: From the drop-down Select “Activity Dashboard“
Once you click on Activity Dashboard a new Window will pop up called “Activity Dashboard”.Here you can see all the activities on your Google docs such as who has viewed the document and when they have viewed the document.
You also get the option to see the Viewer trend, Comment trend, and sharing history.
How to disable View History on Google Docs?
If you want to display the view history you have the option to turn it off in Google docs privacy settings.
Follow the below steps to disable the view History.
Step 1: Go to the Tools menu on the Main menu
Step 2: From the drop-down Select “Activity Dashboard“
Step 3: Now Click on “Privacy Settings” on the Activity Dashboard
Once you open the Activity Dashboard you will find the Privacy settings option on the left-hand side menu. Just click on it
Step 4: Toggle the Account settings to disable it.
Under Account Settings in front of the option “Show my view History for all docs, Sheets, and Slides files ” just move the slider to the left to turn it off
