We get the below error while trying to connect to an Azure VM while trying to connect via a Remote desktop connection.

Because of protocol error (code 0x112d) the remote session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again.

But we are getting this error?

For example, let’s just say we have two VMs running in Azure under the same resource group as shown below.

  • VM1
  • VM2

Verify the RDP port used by both the Virtual Machines in Azure .

Because of Protocol Error Code 0x112d

Here we found that both the VMs are using the same RDP port 3389.

Solution : Because of Protocol Error Code 0x112d the remote session will be disconnect

To fix this error, you need to change the port assigned to one of the VMs to some other port if you want to use RDP on both the VMs.

To check this you can try to stop one of the VMs and then try connecting to the VMs which is up and running with 3389 which will work.

After changing the RDP port on the second VM you can connect to this second VM on the new RDP port.
